Elijah, The Making of a Man of God Part 2: Always Enough

Elijah: The Making of a Man of God
Part 2: Always Enough

1 Kings 17:8-16

“But after a while the brook dried up, for there was no rainfall anywhere in the land. Then the Lord said to Elijah, “Go and live in the village of Zarephath, near the city of Sidon. I have instructed a widow there to feed you.”
1 Kings 17:7-9

1. Discomfort is part of discipleship.

“Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.”
2 Timothy 3:12

“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.”
Psalm 37:4

“Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.”
Psalm 37:3(ESV)

“Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.”
Psalm 37:5

2. What God gives to us; he intends to use through us.

“So he went to Zarephath. As he arrived at the gates of the village, he saw a widow gathering sticks, and he asked her, “Would you please bring me a little water in a cup?” As she was going to get it, he called to her, “Bring me a bite of bread, too.” But she said, “I swear by the Lord your God that I don’t have a single piece of bread in the house. And I have only a handful of flour left in the jar and a little cooking oil in the bottom of the jug. I was just gathering a few sticks to cook this last meal, and then my son and I will die.”
1 Kings 17:10-12

“Don’t be afraid! Go ahead and do just what you’ve said, but make a little bread for me first. Then use what’s left to prepare a meal for yourself and your son. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: There will always be flour and olive oil left in your containers until the time when the Lord sends rain and the crops grow again!”
1 Kings 17:13-14

“God has frequently to change His means of supply to keep our eyes fixed on the source.”
Watchman Nee

“She went away and did as Elijah had told her.”
1 Kings 17:15(NIV)

“We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.”
2 Corinthians 4:7

“Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.”
Galatians 6:1-3

“So she did as Elijah said, and she and Elijah and her family continued to eat for many days. There was always enough flour and olive oil left in the containers, just as the Lord had promised through Elijah.”
1 Kings 17:15-16

3. God can turn our misery into miracles.

“You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy…”
Psalm 30:11

“Nevertheless, the time will come when I will heal Jerusalem’s wounds and give it prosperity and true peace. I will restore the fortunes of Judah and Israel and rebuild their towns. I will cleanse them of their sins against me and forgive all their sins of rebellion. Then this city will bring me joy, glory, and honor before all the nations of the earth! The people of the world will see all the good I do for my people, and they will tremble with awe at the peace and prosperity I provide for them.”
Jeremiah 33:6-9
