Fix Your Eyes on Jesus: Part 2 Where are You Drifting?

Where are You Drifting?

Hebrews 2

Hebrews 2:1 “So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.”

Hebrews 2:8a (NIV) “In putting everything under him, God left nothing that is not subject to him.”

Hebrews 2:8b (NIV) “Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him.”

Hebrews 2:9 (NIV) “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor. “

1. You are not alone in your suffering.

Hebrews 2:9-10 “Yes, by God’s grace, Jesus tasted death for everyone. God, for whom and through whom everything was made, chose to bring many children into glory. And it was only right that he should make Jesus, through his suffering, a perfect leader, fit to bring them into their salvation.”

Isaiah 53:3 “He was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief.”

Job 42:3-6 “You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me. You said, ‘Listen and I will speak! I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.’ I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”

Psalm 34:18 “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.”

2. You are part of God’s family.

Hebrews 2:11-12 “So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters. For he said to God, “I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters. I will praise you among your assembled people.”

Ephesians 2:19-20 “So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.”

3. You are free from the fear of death.

Hebrews 2:14-15 says, “Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.”

1 Corinthians 15:56-57 “For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

1 Corinthians 15:58 “So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.”

Hebrews 6:18-19 “So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.”

4. You have been made holy.

Hebrews 2:11 “So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father.”

Hebrews 2:18 (NIV) “Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.”

“To realize the worth of the anchor we need to feel the storm.”

Titus 3:4-6 “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.”
