Why We Go
Mt. 28:18-20, Acts 1:8
Matthew 28:18-20 “Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
1. We have been given a Co-Mission.
2. Keep in step with the Spirit.
Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Galatians 5:25 “Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.”
3. People need the gospel.
Mark 16:15 “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.”
John 3:17 “God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.”
Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
John 8:24 “That is why I said that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I AM who I claim to be, you will die in your sins.”
1 Timothy 2:5-7 “There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time. And I have been chosen as a preacher and apostle to teach the Gentiles this message about faith and truth. I’m not exaggerating—just telling the truth.”
4. The gospel needs a people.
Mathew 16:18 (NIV) “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”
Romans 10:13-15 “For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.” But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”
Donald Whitney- “Sharing the gospel is like walking around in a thunderstorm and handing out lightning rods. You don’t know when the lightning is going to strike or who it will strike, but you know what it’s going to strike—the lightning rod of the gospel. And when it does, that person’s lightning rod is going to be charged with the power of God and he or she is going to believe.”
5. Evangelism is exciting.
Galatians 6:9 “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”
Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
6. How you share the good news will be eclectic.
Colossians 4:5-6 “Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.”
1 Corinthians 9:22-23 “When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.”
