Colossians: Rooted In Christ
Part 3: Serving Christ Well
Colossians 1:24-2:5
Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church.
Colossians 1:24
“I am a Jew, born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up in this city. I studied under Gamaliel and was thoroughly trained in the law of our ancestors.
Acts 22:3a
“I persecuted the followers of this Way to their death, arresting both men and women and throwing them into prison.”
Acts 22:4
1. Jesus transforms us and makes us New.
“We will, however, suffer the pressures and tribulations he suffered during his earthly ministry. The work of the cross is finished, but the sufferings that Jesus experienced in life are not over. The body of Christ faces these sufferings each and every day and will continue to be confronted with them until Jesus comes again."
Bob Yandian
2. The best version of your life can only be found in Christ.
I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness— the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Colossians 1:25-27
“But what, exactly, is the revealed mystery? It is that God’s saving purpose is for all men. The Messiah (Christ) was not just sent to the people of Israel; He came for all men. God’s love and mercy did not belong exclusively to the Jews. The salvation offered to the Jews was the same as that extended to the Gentiles."
Harold Songer
3. Do you believe?
“He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me."
Colossians 1:28-29
4 I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. 5 For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how disciplined you are and how firm your faith in Christ is.
Colossians 2:4-5
