Rooted in Christ
Part 7: A Godly Home
Colossians 3:18-4:1
Does the inside of your home reflect what Christ has done inside of you?
1. Wives & Husbands: Show each other love and respect.
“Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly.”
Colossians 3:18-19
“And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything. For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.”
Ephesians 5:21-26
“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness…”
2 Peter 1:3
2. Children: Please the Lord through your obedience.
“Children, always obey your parents, for this pleases the Lord.”
Colossians 3:20
“But those who won’t care for their relatives, especially those in their own household, have denied the true faith. Such people are worse than unbelievers.”
1 Timothy 5:8
“Fathers, do not aggravate your children, or they will become discouraged.”
Colossians 3:21
“Discipline your children, and they will give you peace of mind and will make your heart glad.”
Proverbs 29:17
“No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.”
Hebrews 12:11
3. Everyone: Turn your work into worship.
“Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Serve them sincerely because of your reverent fear of the Lord. Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ. But if you do what is wrong, you will be paid back for the wrong you have done. For God has no favorites. Masters, be just and fair to your slaves. Remember that you also have a Master—in heaven.”
Colossians 3:22-4:1
“It seems you lost Onesimus for a little while so that you could have him back forever. He is no longer like a slave to you. He is more than a slave, for he is a beloved brother, especially to me. Now he will mean much more to you, both as a man and as a brother in the Lord.”
Philemon 1:15-16
